There’s hope for us all, then

January 29, 2007 · 22 Comments

Coffee shop me; Jan,’07 I felt all out of sorts when I got to Sainsbury’s this morning. Can’t for the life of me think why but there I was, all grumpy and scowling, ready to mow down hapless shoppers who got in my way with a skillful prod of my trolley.

Until I came to my senses and replaced my scowl with a smile.

Each time I caught the eye of another happy shopper who seemed receptive I broadened my smile and said a bright “Good morning!”

Works a treat as a mood-lifter, does that, and by the time I’d gone through the check-out, having had a cheerful chat with the woman on the till, the grumpiness had disappeared completely and there was a snap to my step that hadn’t been there before.

Like the old song says: laugh and the world laughs with you; cry and you’re a miserable old git.

“You’re looking painfully cheerful today,” Graham said as he helped me in with the bag.

“It’s not painful.”

“What is it, then?”

“Oh, it’s nearly the end of January, the sun’d be shining if the sky wasn’t cloudy, and I haven’t a worry in the world.”

“Ah. One of those kinds of cheerful. There’s hope for us all, then.”

“You said it.”

If you feel in need of an extra smile, and you have three or four minutes to spare, click on this video (the audio is jolly but rather loud);  if you ain’t smiling before the end of it I’ll be very surprised:

And that wraps it up for another day, folks.
