A perfectly lovely day, long, lazy and stay-at-home because it was raining. A lot.
A few days back I was sat thinking about things and turned over a memory of going to the cinema in London to see Jazz on a Summer’s Day. At least twice. It would have been in the early 60s. It was one of those seminal influences for me. I’ve seen it since, on TV like as not, but these days it’s shown only in cinema clubs and such, places to which I have no access. Nor wish to have.
I sighed, put the memory back where it would be, hopefully, safe, and turned to my next job.
It nagged me, though. Surely, I thought, in these days, I can get to see it again if I wish? So I surfed on over to Amazon, did a search and there it was, on DVD. One click and I had my own copy. Two days later, here it was. And today, I sat down and watched it, feeling those seminal floods all over again.
And, who would have thought it back then, it sits on my shelf now, all ready to watch over any time the fancy takes me.
Ain’t technology wonderful?

Must admit another movie I’m not familiar with. So many I want to rent now, just don’t get to the video place to do it. Have to see them before buying them.

Technology is indeed wonderful
Now I can annoy everyone with my new baby pictures at the speed of the Internet

Thanks for all the well-wishes, firstly. Secondly, although there were some complications that caused the mother to have a bit of an extended stay in the hospital, everyone is just fine now.

In the spirit of savouring the wonders of technology I’ve been soothing my jangled nerves in work reading back throught your archives again: everyone MUST read this one John, this is one of the funniest Dolly stories ever - particularly the ‘you bitch’ line!! fabulous

Aside to Lou:
I’m glad things are well there, too.
Bless you for that reference. Truly one of the most hilarious John/Dolly tales yet! Makes me awfully glad Bella and I, perforce, have our swearing fights indoors where no one else can possibly hear. How truly embarassing to be caught ‘having words’ with one’s cat by a stranger. And we do it quite often, too, she being such a cheeky old thing. And we humans can’t afford to allow that, now can we?
And, Edward, such a lovely baby, definitely a keeper!

I’ll have to get that DVD for Jim. He adores jazz and blues.
As per Lou’s find: That was a great tale, John! I was laughing out loud at the ‘you bitch’ part and I’m guessing Jim thinks I’ve finally gone over the edge!
Beautiful baby pictures, Edward. She’s a cutie!

Lawks! I’d forgotten that story from 2002! Thanks for unearthing it, Lou! I’m still in mid-2001 on the archive conversion…

Edward, great baby pics. Loved the house too. You’ll need a nice rocking chair/porch swing so you can sit and rock the new one.
Somehow I don’t recall that Dolly story. I mqay hqve missed it due to travel, though I always try to go back and reaqd anything I miss.
I may have to get that recording. There are certain seminal recordings one must have, including several old Dave Brubeck Quartet albums like Take Five and Phil Woods Live at the Showboat. I have them on vinyl and should update the media.

A very young friend (early twenties) who fancies emulating Frank Sinatra (and does not half bad) brought that film by one day some months back. It is great and I hadn’t seen it before.
