How do you say Grrrr in Japanese?

It’s funny, isn’t it, how the Internet has spoiled us when it comes to searching things out?  Used to be that if a record you wanted was no longer listed and not on the lists of the secondhand record shops that advertised in the back of the Gramophone you’d fold your hands gracefully and hope that things might change.

Now you turn to the Internet and search it out. Anything you want, you can find on the Internet.

Except when it’s barred from you by language.

Graham is desperate to get a CD copy of a Sad Café album–Facades, BMG Victor, BVCP-2096–released in Nov 21, 1992 but only in Japan. And there’s the snag. It’s for sale on Yahoo Japan but the translation doesn’t work, and he can’t find how to bid for it or contact the seller.

I can understand the ‘Grrrr!’ on that. We’re moving towards a one-planet market and, despite snags en route, I think that is a good thing. Except it’s not moving fast enough. It’s a major item on my I’d like to see… list. And the language snag is holding things up.

Hey ho.

Apart from the Grrrs of Frustration it’s been a quiet day. I did let out one squeak of astonishment when I discovered that two houses opposite ours are on the market with asking prices around the £250,000 [$US500,000 approx] mark.

This is ridiculous. I know that properties around major cities go for a lot more, and there are quite ordinary houses for sale even in Somerset in excess of £500,000. Even so.

It may be that, one day, this bubble will burst. Not a pleasant thought, because that’d be a pop besides which the present world credit crisis will look like a wind egg.

Makes you wonder if Marx wasn’t right on that one after all, and that property is theft and that we’re all  about to get our come uppance at last. I used to have a poster proclaiming that slogan, back in my student days. Shame I didn’t keep it.

    That’s easy, glllll,……..! :-)
    Sorry, it’s a silly joke, I know, but I just couldn’t resist! :-)

Oh, well done, Brigitte! I truly, honestly hadn’t seen that! :D

Google has spoilt us alright! Who on earth did we ask those questions to in the days before the T’Internet eh?
I googled the album and came across this site: http://eil.com/shop/extsearch.asp?DiscTitle=facades, its out of stock but you can request the next available copy (there’s no price shown)
The CD is also on Amazon (used) for £49.34 and it comes with another disk – Misplaced Ideals

Thanks, Sarah. I’ve passed the info on to Graham and he’s gone up to his computer, muttering. He’s done a lot of muttering the past couple of days. I try not to hear.

wowee! Well, I hope you get your money and a bargain at the next house.

Thanks! Those houses are one model up from ours though not so well presented. We don’t expect to get so much but it would be nice to pick up a decent sale this time round.

Be interesting to see those houses now up for sale. Bet they haven’t tidied them like you have. :-)

Sad C afe .. the finest live band of their, or any time. Such a sad end!
If Graham looks around, there are a number of download sites (even legit ones !) who have good coverage of Cafe.

    Happy hunting,

    David.

Thanks, David! Sad Cafe seem to have been a part of our lives for so long that it’s hard to accept they no longer record. Graham will track down a copy, I’m sure of that. He’s like a dog with a bone when he sets his mind to a thing.

Sarah certainly is a good friend. I hope her tips helped. We are hoping you are warm and dry there. Our news is saying that a giant storm is sweeping over you. Flooding expected. Please keep us posted.

Thanks, Mage — that’s typically thoughtful of you. The storm seems to have passed without too much damage though there is a little flooding over on the east coast. No cost to life and limb thanks goodness. Here things have died down to a dreary calm and, coming back from the holiday camp just now, it struck me as mild and gently autumnal once more.

hello….this is louphoria’s friend, I lived in Japan last year and am still in contact with Japanese friends. If other options fail and you need any translation help I can put you in touch with one guy who I know will be happy to help.

Thanks, mraid! We’ll be in touch. It was just a throw-away title but now I’m truly intrigued to know how the Japanese say Grrrr!
