Yawn!

Graham had an afternoon and evening do in Bristol today. I opted out. Far too cold, dismal and grey for me to think of schlepping around hard city pavements. Bristol is a nice city but you need to visit in the spring or early summer to get the best of it.

So, once I’d dropped him at the rail station in Bridgwater I shot back home fast as fast, gobbled lunch, and snuck myself up in bed alongside Dolly.

We then proceeded to attempt a record, snoozing for England.

A light and early dinner, with only a modicum of wine, and back to bed after a showing of the last ever broadcast of Northern Exposure.  I think that, next time I settle down to view the discs, I shall give the last three episodes a miss. Not satisfying. Not to me, anyway.

When the series was shown here on TV I missed a couple of chunks, among them the last few programs, leaving Joel in the wilderness catching salmon and curing hides. That hurt at the time, because I’d really enjoyed the show and felt I’d been cheated of the ending.

Needn’t have worried.  I still love the whole but the series was ended, I suspect, because it simply ran out of steam.  Now we’re onto Buffy.

The frost was crinkling on the station platform when it came time to pick Graham up at about 10:45 so I waited in the car rather than stalking up and down waiting for the train to arrive.

Today Graham goes over to the holiday camp for the very last, final time before New Year. He’ll stay overnight and spend tomorrow morning cleaning lines and putting the whole booze dispensing side to rest for the long break.

Then we intend to celebrate with a trip to Taunton for lunch, coffee, and a new Christmas tree. We’ve been debating the Christmas tree problem for some time now and have reached a mutually acceptable solution at last. You’d not think there could be so many variations on the humble artificial Christmas tree.

Our Christmas, then, will start on Sunday with the dressing of the tree, followed by a week during which we’ll catch up on shopping. Two days feasting, then the whole lot will come down and be packed away on the 27th, to be unpacked… I wonder where.

It’s been a slack, rather boring time here in the new brick house.  I’m not sure I’d want it any other way–there’ll be excitement enough for me next year.

One thing of note:  my old dark study on the ground floor has been transformed into a nice comfortable dining room, leaning towards smart but not too much so. Bit like me, really.
