It’s nice in here

First port of call was to the dentist so’s Graham could have a full jaw x-ray. The problem under the two teeth is diagnosed as a long-standing infection that should have been dealt with at least two emergency treatments back. He’s to have the two molars removed on Tuesday next week; meantime the antibiotics and pain-killers are keeping the problem under control and he’s able to function normally.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the x-ray has revealed a future problem with his wisdom teeth growing sideways and down rather than straight up, again something that should have been spotted a long time back. The x-ray plate is being forwarded to a consultant but it looks very much as if we’ll be making a hospital trip in the near future.

This is all down to the scarcity of proper NHS dentistry and we’re both of us mightily relieved to be receiving proper professional care once more.

“I tell you what,” I said.

“What’s that, then?”

“It’s going to be incredibly difficult to move away from here if it means losing out on dentists again.”

“Serpently will.”

So, we went on to see what the local electrical shops might have in the way of a new hifi system for me to use in the study. An uninspiring choice and nothing to persuade us to slap the plastic on the counter. Currently the only way I can play my music is on the laptop, which is lacking in just about every criterion I would normally place on music reproduction. I have my little Robert’s DAB radio, which has been a life saver, but I dearly want to get back to being able to play my CDs properly again. Sadly, the old Sony system has died while in storage. It was never very good, and was showing signs of distress when it was packed, so it comes as no surprise.

We’ve both of us spent hours and hours searching the Internet for something that’ll do what I want, with no joy. There will be a solution to this; it’s just that we haven’t found it yet.

Home, and a pleasant, lazy day. It’s nice in here. It’s nice out there, too, but it’s really nice in here.

What’s that out there, then?
