I couldn’t believe my eyes when I got to the Sainsbury’s car park late this morning. The road there had been strangely empty and quiet and the car park was no more than half full. The supermarket was quiet and easy, too. I should have plunged in right there and then to fill a large trolley with holiday goodies. I didn’t but I ought to have done.
The question that occupied me was, where were all the people? Shopping? Not shopping? Home? Away? The only answer I could come up with was that they were not here.
As I strolled out to the car with my day’s provisions I couldn’t help but think I could really come to like supermarket shopping if it was always like this.
